Health and Wellbeing Board

The Devon Health and Wellbeing Board is a group of key leaders from health, public health, and care systems who work together to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Devon and reduce health inequalities. Established in April 2013 as part of the Health and Social Care Act, the Board collaborates to understand community needs, set priorities, and encourage integrated working among various organisations. 

Main aims and objectives of the board:

  1. Improve Health Outcomes: Focus on reducing health inequalities and delivering better health and wellbeing outcomes
  2. Promote Integration: Encourage collaboration between the NHS, social care providers, district councils, and other public sector bodies 
  3. Health Improvement: Support an integrated approach to public health services 
  4. Local Governance: Provide a governance structure for planning and accountability of health and wellbeing services 
  5. Needs Assessment: Lead the development of the Devon Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) to understand local needs 
  6. Strategic Framework: Develop and update the Devon Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy based on the JSNA 
  7. Joint Commissioning: Promote joint commissioning and pooled budgets to enhance integration and partnership working 
  8. Reflect Priorities: Ensure all commissioning plans and policies align with the health and wellbeing priorities identified through the needs assessment  

In short, the Board works to ensure everyone in Devon has the best possible health and wellbeing by fostering collaboration and integrated efforts among various health and care organisations.

The production of Joint Strategic Needs Assessments, Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies  and Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments  are statutory requirements of health and wellbeing boards under the Health and Social Care Act 2012
